Summary:  The Shipping Supervisor will champion Eastern's Mission, Purpose, and Core Values, lead a team of Distribution Associates to excel at meeting customer needs, and manage the processes related to picking, packaging, dispatching, shipping, and delivering products, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment to Eastern's Internal and External Customers by performing the following duties:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Included are the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Lead and develop picking and delivery teams by training and coaching distribution associates to become high-performing employees and building mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members.
  • Conduct Annual Performance Reviews with Professional Growth Plans for each direct report and complete Quarterly Reviews with each employee.
  • Plan and supervise ongoing driver and shipping associate Cross-Training to continuously improve the capabilities of the distribution team and prioritize the professional development of each associate.
  • Maintain a Can-Do mindset at all times when meeting the shipping needs of Eastern's internal and external customers.
  • In conjunction with the ADM and DM, embrace, promote and lead continuous process improvement efforts related to shipping, dispatch, and customer delivery.
  • Champion the on-going practice of Total Quality Management.
  • Continually assess Eastern's customer service level and provide recommendations to managers regarding opportunities to improve operational performance.
  • Enforce the MTR shipping process to ensure no order or tagged transfer requiring MTRs is shipped to a customer without accompanying MTRs.
  • Lead the training and execution of the Electronic Log Device (ELD) technology at Branch One.
  • Work with ADM and DM to plan and implement cost saving improvements to transportation services, such as reducing routes, optimizing capacities, employing alternate modes of transportation (UPS, Motor Freight), and minimizing idling.
  • Work with ADM and DM to plan and implement cost saving improvements and training for order picking processes to strategically improve inventory control, and significantly reduce order mispicks and backorders.  
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT Regulations.
  • Conduct ongoing preventative maintenance on transportation vehicles to maintain vehicle readiness.
  • Maintain a close record of overtime hours and truck maintenance logs and manage labor costs.
  • Promote and monitor employee safety and take proactive steps to create a positive safety culture. Partner with customer, internal and external resources as necessary to identify, evaluate and remove safety obstacles. Ensure compliance with safety programs and protocols as well as federal, state and local regulations.
  • Conduct monthly safety meetings with the driver team
  • Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
  • Reports to work on a regular and timely basis.

  • Supervises delivery drivers and shipping associates.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; filling in for distribution supervisors, when necessary.

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor degree or equivalent from four-year college; or 5+ years experience working in a manufacturing or distribution environment.


Language Skills:  Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have or develop knowledge of Eclipse Inventory software.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Current Driver's License, CDL Helpful.
